1901 - With parents at 59 East Ham Terrace, Albert Road, Leyton, Essex. Aged 2, born at Leyton, Essex. 1911 - With parents at 107 Scotts Road, Leyton. Aged 12, born at Leyton, Essex. 1914-1919 - According to information he told his grandson, Norman LONG, William joined the army in 1914, lying about his age so he would be accepted. His mother wrote to the authorities and he was sent home. He later joined the Royal Marines and saw active service, including at Zebrugge. He stowed away on HMS Canada to go back to England. His son died. 1921 - On 9 April, William was remobilised for the Royal Marine Light Infantry. However, he was demobilised at Plymouth on 4 June 1921. At this time his character and qualifications were both desceibed as "very good". He was "in possession of, or entitled to reckon one Good Conduct Badge". He was described as: Height: 5 feet 10 inches; Complexion: Fresh; Eyes: Brown; Hair: Dk Brown; Trade: Blacksmiths mate(?); Marks or scars: Tattooed right forearm / Indians head tattooed left forearm / (w) scars right legs. 1922 - William emigrated to Victoria, Australia per Themistocles.
