Hello Paul, I have a Samuel Walker Kerr, whose father was William Kerr and his mother was Margaret McCoun, dau of James McCoun and Margaret Walker. Samuel Walker Kerr's parents were masscred by Indians and the child was raised by his maternal grandfather, James McCoun. I will quote from the actual records, " Margaret McCoun marred William Kerr about 1776 or 1777 ans moved to Sinking Creek, Washington Co., VA. Little is known about this marriage and sadly, both Margaret and William appear to have died at about the same time, prior to the middle of Nov. 1778, leaving an only child , an infant son named Samuel Walker Kerr. Washington Co.Court Records for 17 Nov. 1778 show that " on motion of Samuel Kerr, administration is granted him on the estate of William Kerr, deceased 400 pounds. John Campbell, Robert Lamb, John Bowles and Samuel Huston or any three of them" were named to appraise the estate. Again in Washington Co.VA on 19 May 1779, the inventory and Aprraisal was exhibited in the Circuit Court and ordered to be recorded. (Washinton Co,VA was created in 1776-77 from Fincastle and Montgomery Counties. ) In Botetourt Co., VA. on 11 March 1779 there was an order for the Commissioners to bind orgphan Samuel Kerr, child of William Kerr, dec'd to James McCoun, according to law." James McCoun and Robert McAfee were appointed by the Court as Guardians. Archibald Woods was their Security for a 500 pound Bond. Samuel Walker Kerr was married four times and most every marriage resulted in a son named Samuel Walker Kerr. So, it is very conceivable that one of these sons married a Ledgerwood as this family figures prominently in the Walker, McAfee, McGee families. Hope this helps, Sincerely, Bonnie Simpson Valko
