William JACKA was employed as a gardener by the PAYNTER family at a property called "Boskenna". This information from Sonia Masiak, 3 x GGda of William. This place is listed in the 1841 Census for William's family.
Some history of Boskenna.
In I677 William Paynter of Trelissick, of St. Erth purchased Boskenna for his second son Francis. In 1650 John Norden had written of Boskenna, "it standeth harde upon the south sea" In the sixteenth century the manor of Boskenna was held by the Godolphins. Thomas Godolphin had married Isabel, daughter of Benne of Boskenna. Thomas was great-grandfather of John Godolphin, High Sheriff of Cornwall 1504. By 1584 Boskenna was the residence of Walter Carthew. In 1746 a map showed the house itself to be a modest affair, and not the imposing structure it later became. At this time it was, apparently, more of a farmhouse or of similar proportions, surrounded by a garden wall. Fragments of old buildings adjoining were parts of the original Benne home, huge stones which could have dated back to the reign of King John. Boskenna was purchased from a cousin of the Paynters, Admiral Carthew. Legend has it that the admiral had gambled the money away and Paynter foreclosed. He allowed Carthew to stay in one room in the house with his two dogs. There is another legend of a ghost in the drive. He walks with his head under his arm. If you should happen to meet him, he may throw the head at you - you would not live the year. Eight generations of Paynters have now lived in the old house, which has been added to and restored at least three times.
