    William George "Bill" Hutton, 77, Topeka, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000 at his home.

    Mr. Hutton owned Hutton Monuments in Topeka. He was an Army veteran of World War II and saw duty in Europe, figting in the Battle of the Bulge and helping in the liberation of the Daukau Concentration Camp. He reached the rank of staff sergeant.

    He was born Aug. 20, 1923, at Topeka, the son of Arthur and Clara Elizabeth Crandall Hutton. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1941. Mr. Hutton was a member of Seaman Congregational Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent for many years, sang in the choir, served as church moderator and was chairman of the pastoral search committee. He was a member of the North Topeka Kiwanis club, serving two terms as president, a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 90 AF&AM, Arab shrine Temple and the Moose Lodge in North Topeka. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He served as scout master and assistant scout master of Pack No. 17.

    Mr. Hutton has served as president of the Rochester Board of Education and helped in the unification of Seaman Unified School District 345. He served on the school district's board of directors for many years and served as president of the board for eight years. He was past president of the Seaman Alumni Association. He served on the Topeka-Shawnee County Metropolitan Planning Commission for 20 years.

    Mr. Hutton has served as president of the Kansas/Oklahoma Momument Builders Assoication, and he was a past president and director of Monument Builders of North America. He also served as president of the insurance company that covered Monument Builders of America. He also served on the mental health board of Stormont-Vail and was service on the Brewster Place Retirement Community board of directors. He was a contributor toward the rebuilding of Washburn Law School after the 1966 tornado and was a volunteer in the construction of Camp Jayhawk and volunteered at the Kiwanis Youth Camp at Lake Shawnee.

    He married Maxine Elaine Smith on Oct. 1, 1942 in Topeka. She survives.

    Survivors also include two sons, William Craig Hutton, Dallas, Texas, and Chris Hutton, Topeka; a brother A. Clinton Hutton, Topeka, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services will at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Seaman Congregational Church. Burial with Masonic Rites and military honors will be in the Rochester Cemetery. Mr. Hutton will lie in state from noon today until 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hoyt. He also will lie in state an hour before service time at the church. Family and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

    The family suggests memorials to the Seaman Congregational Church and sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hoyt.
