Obituary of William Crane Howard, from MS-005 Montgomery County Historical Society, James O. Oliver scrapbook, Dayton Metro Library, Vol. II, Part 2, Page 180: "The remains of William C. Howard, a former Dayton attorney, who died in San Francisco, will be interred int he family lot at Woodland cemetery next Monday. Mr. Howard was aged about 58, and had left Dayton some years ago, going to Minnesota and later to California. He was the only son of the late John Howard, in whose office he studied law. During the war he served with the 17th Ohio Battery. His wife was a daughter of the late Daniel Keifer and preceded him in death about 20 years. Three daughters, one of whom is now in Dayton, and a son, who is a United States soldier now in China, survive."
