He attende Otterbein University (Westerville, Ohio) and the Ohio Medical College, Cincinnati, Ohio, receiving his degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1884. After the death of Addie, Dr. Hetzler and his sister, Sarah Harris, made their home together until 1930.
