  5. ↑ 5.0 5.1 5.2 On the 1900 census, this surname was indexed and written as Grizzl, but this census taker also wrote Indiana as Indania (among many other such errors). Griswell is taken from the 1885 Nebraska census. "Griswell" could have easily been misunderstood as "Grizzl" (or "Grizzle") depending on various circumstances. Unfortunately, it is also possible that the Nebraska record is wrong and Williams' last name is in fact "Grizzle". "Grizzle" is listed on the 1880 census while they were still living in Kentucky.
