There were two different but very similar William Gorringe's born about 1803-1805 living in Barcombe

1. : The William Gorringe who married Martha Cheesman on 12 Oct 1829 had birth dates/locations on census returns recorded as: abt 1806 in Sussex (1841 census) abt 1805 in Barcombe (1851, 1861, 1871 & 1881 census)

Witnesses to William and Martha's marriage were William Maplesden and Eliza Gorringe. This is likely the William Maplesden and Elizabeth Gorring who married in Barcombe on 29 Jun 1830. I think this Eliza is William's sister. Also, one of the witnesses to William Maplesden and Elizabeth Gorring's marriage was Edward Gorringe, who I think is a sibling of William and Eliza/Elizabeth Gorringe.

Therefore I believe it's most likely this William was the son of William Gorringe & Elizabeth Elphick


2. : The William Gorringe who married Lucy Sawyers 21 Oct 1826 in Barcombe had birth dates/locations on census returns recorded as: abt 1806 in Sussex (1841 census) abt 1805 in Barcombe (1851 census) abt 1803 in Chidingly (1861 census) abt 1803 in Barcombe (1871 & 1881 census) There is a possible baptism record on FamilySearch for a William Gorringe son of John & Ann baptised 1803 in Chiddingly. The image for this record isn't available online at the time of writing but with this William's 1861 census saying he was born in Chiddingly, this could be the correct baptism record for him.

It's possible that this William Gorringe is the son of William & Elizabeth Elphick but it seems more likely he was the son of John (K2TL-HZ3) & Ann. They had a daughter Jane Gorringe who married Francis Harman in Barcombe on 21 Oct 1826 - the same day and place that William married Lucy Sawyers (i.e. siblings marrying on the same day). One of the witnesses to Jane and Francis Harman's marriage was Wm Sawyer.
