Most people Keep hearing that the Glines came from a place called South Trent, but no such place as ever been found, And when you look up just Trent, then it is not in Devonshire. But South Brent has been found. Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire page 266 Glines (Gline), William,s. of Wm. and Agnes (Grout) G. of So. Trent., co. Devon, cous. of Gabriel Grout, was working with Richard Manson at Portsm. ab. 1702. Settled at Oyster Riv. List 368b. Wife not found. Prob. his ch: John, bp. O. R. 26 June 1726. One John (Gline) m. at Dover 27 Nov. 1728 Mary Basford. Abigail, sister of and bp. with John. 1 Further note: It is most likely that the name of the Devon parish was South Brent. "B's" and "T's" appear to have been similar in early writings. This is the second circumstance this writer has found this morning in reading items regarding this part of South Devon. |
