He came to Mi 1867 from Licking co Ohio; was a Prussian/high German who became a Land Speculator with his Todd in-laws. His wife Hannah Todd was a double cousin to the Mary Ann Todd who married Abraham Lincoln. Robert Smith Todd was a shrewd Scottish lawyer who married his first cousin to gain control of more Todd land grants. William's father-in-law Edward Todd organized Mary Ann twp Licking co Oh in 1817 and named it after a favorite grandmother. Mary Ann Todd was named after this woman.
