Facts and Events
[edit] About William DavidsonWilliam and Martha Davidson followed Martha's parents William and Martha Gilmore to Preble Co. from Rockbridge Co., Virginia. On 9 Jan 1819 William purchased from Peter Fleming for W 1/2 of the NW 1/4, section 35, township 8 (Washington), range 2. A payment of $250 was made on that date with another payment of $1700 made on 12 Aug 1820. This land was sold on 1 Jul 1833 to John G. Harlan in preparation for their move to Harrison Twp. in Darke Co., OH. William and Martha bought the SE 1/4 of section 21in township 10 (Harrison) Range1E from William Curry of Preble Co., for $1000. They remained in the New Madison area until 1852 when they sold their farm and moved to Jonesville, IN with their daughter, Mary and her husband, Samuel McClure. Shortly thereafter, William passed away. I am not sure where William is buried. Martha and his son, William G. are buried in the Old Hillgrove Cemetery just west of Hillgrove, OH. The tombstones of Martha and William G. are broken and hard to read. It is possible that William M. is buried here also. The following obituary appeared in a Preble Co., Eaton, OH newspaper: Davidson, William, died at his home in Jonesville, Batholomew County, Indiana, age 68, of flux. Recently moved from Ohio with son-in-law, S. E. McClure. Had lived in Preble 17 years, as a pioneer, moved to Darke County until going to Indiana. Leaves wife and five children. 1853 References
