In Whitesville, N. Y., Nov. 26, 1885, of heart disease, William S. Cottrell, M. D., in the 66th year of his age. For some months he had been conscious that his disease might result in sudden death, and he was not disappointed, for his last sickness was short. He met death with composure, feeling his acceptance with God. He was born in Petersburg, N. Y., and while a boy came with his parents to Allegany county. For twenty-nine years he had lived in Whitesville, a practicing physician, and had won many friends by his quiet way and skill in treating the sick.
When a young man he united with the first church of Alfred, but on moving to Whitesville, he united with the Baptist church of that place, with which he remained to the close of life. He has left a wife, three daughters, and two sons, one of whom is a dentist, the other a very promising physician. His funeral was held in the Baptist church, and was very largely attended, many having to stand during the service. Thus we buried a man who will be much missed by the community in which he lived. J.
