A transcription of his will:
In the name of God Amen I William Cole the Elder of Clent in the County of Stafford Gent doe make this my last Will and Testament in manner following Imprimis I give & bequeath to my son in law Richard Cole one Guinea to be paid him at the end of one yeare after my decease Item I bequeath to my Granddaughter Ann Cresswell the sum of five pounds over & above the moneys I gave her in my life time - Item I give & bequeath to my Grandchildren William Cole George Cole Gilbert Cole Richard Cole Elizabeth Cole & Dorothy Cole sons and daughters of my said son in law Richard Cole by my Daughter Mary his late Wife decd & to any of them Ten pounds to be paid as followes ___ to my Grandsons at their respective ages of one & Twenty & to my Grandaughters at their respective ages of one & Twenty or marriage which first happens And my will is yt in case any of my six last named Grandchildren ______ before his her or their legacy or legacies become payable by vertue of this my Will Then I doe ______ legacy & legacies of him her & them soe dying to be equally divided to & amongst as well my said Grandaughter Ann Cresswell as the rest of my said Grandchildren yt shall be then living when & soe soone as he she or they shal attaine unto the age of one & Twenty yeares Item I give to my son in law Joseph Bach & Elizabeth his Wife five pounds apiece to be paid at the end of one yeare next after my decease Item I give to my Grandchildren Benjamin & William Bach the sons of the said Joseph & Elizabeth & to my Grandaughters Mary Lydia & Phoebe Bach & to any of them Ten pounds to be paid my Grandsons at their respective ages of one and Twenty & to my Grandaughters at their severall ages or marriage which first happens And my Will is that if any of my last mentioned five Grandchildren dye before his her or their legacy or legacies become payable according to the tenor of this my Will Then & in such case I appoint the legacy & legacies of him her & them soe dying to be equally divided amongst the survivors & survivor of them when & soe soon as he she or they shall attaine their respective ages of one & Twenty yeares And to the end interest may be made of all the legacies given to my respective Grandchildren as aforesd until the same legacies become payable in manner herein expressed I doe hereby desire direct & appoint my executor to place the sd moneys out at interest upon such securitys as he approves off with ye good liking of my said sons in law Richard Cole & Joseph Bach & I give to each legatee the interest of his or her respective legacy to be paid together with the legacy when ye same becomes payable But in case the money doe sett out happen to be lost I doe acquit my Executor thereof & my Grandchildren only shall beare the loss And if part of the sd mony only shall be lost Then any of my said Grandchildren shall beare Apportionable share in such loss Item I give to evry hired servant living with me at my decease tenn shillings to be paid at one yeares end after my decease Item I give to my loving son William Cole All my goods cattle chattels stock & personall Estate of what nature or kindsoever he paying my debts legacies & funeral expences And I doe hereby nominate & appoint my said son William Cole sole executor of this my Will And I doe desire my very good friends John Spilsbury & Joseph Cox both of Kidderminster Gent to be overseers of this my Will & for their trouble therein I give them one Guinea Apiece And hereby revoaking all former Wills by me made I doe declare this to be my last Will & Testament the second day of November Anno Dni 1710 & in the ninth yeare of Ann Queen of Great Brittaine etc
