According to Dewel Lott's book "My Calvert Kin", William was one of four Calvert brothers and three cousins who came to America abt. the beginning of the Revolutionary War. They came from Ireland and landed at Norfolk, Virginia. One brother went to Canada because he was not in favor of the war. The other three brothers moved to the interior. William Calvert was in the old state of Franklin which is now Tennessee, and is believed to have lived in the are a S.E. of Knoxville between the Holston River, the Nalachuckie River and the Watauga.. He was evidently evicted from his land in East Tennessee and moved into Madison County, Alabama between 1800-1810. They left Madison County about 1817 when they moved to Marion County, Alabama.
