William Caley and his four children died in a traffic accident Tuesday night at the same Wells County intersection where his parents and three other persons were killed nearly six years ago.
Killed besides Caley, 43, Rt. 1, Markle, were his sons, Kevin, 8, Kent, 12, and Kirby, 14, and daughter, Kriss, 11. Caley's wife, Marjorie, 40, was injured but Wells County Hospital in Bluffton reported her condition was not serious.
Ironically, the accident at the same intersection Sept. 17, 1959, killed Caley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Caley, as they were returning from the Bluffton Street Fair. Their auto collided with a car driven by a 15 year old boy.
The Tuesday night accident matched the toll for Indiana's worst crash of this year. A Gary couple, Mr. and Mrs. George Jones and three of their 11 children died June 28 in a two-car crash at the west edge of Gary.
Mr. Caley was born January 28, 1932 to Clifford and Cressie (Haflich) Caley. He was a member of the Adam's Line American Legion Post No. 480, the Markle Masonic Lodge No. 453 and the Markle Church of Christ.
Surviving are the widow, the former Marjorie Cockriel; two sisters, Mrs. Gaunice McClintic of Hartford City and Mrs. Hubert (Barbara) Girvin of Markle and one brother Donnie Caley who is in the service and stationed on the west coast.
Twillight Masonic services will be conducted at the Markle Church of Christ, Thursday. Combined funeral services will be held Friday in the church with Rev. Iwan Odor officiating and burial will be in the Markle Cemetery. Funderberg Funeral Home is in charge of the service.
