Troy, (N.Y.) Oct. 25 Last Wednesday was brought into this town and lodged in the goal of the county, William Bentley, of Hoosick, a man nearly 70 years of age, for the Murder of his wife. The criminal confesses he committed the murder, and assigns no other cause for the horrid act, than - Jealousy! It appears from the report of the Coroner's Inquest, that he first struck his wife with a shoemakers's hammer, on one of her arms, which was broken in two places; she attempted to escape, and proceeded some way towards a neighbours house, when he overtook her, & struck her repeatedly with the edge and head of an axe, on her head and shoulders. She survived but a few hours. The criminal will receive his trial at the circuit court, to be holden in this town next September. He has formerly been a Baptist Minister.
