William was a membber of the Society of Friends (Quakers). From Virginia, William traveled to Ohio on 25 July 1804 and returned on 19 December 1804. Apparently he was reconnoitering because he, and most of his family, migrated to Belmont Co., Ohio on 21 August 1805.

Requested to move to Concord MM, Belmont Co, OH. 21 Aug 1805 (HQR) He and his wife continued to practice their chosen religion here, but most of the children gave up the Quaker life style, but according to the American Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy, all the children were born into this religion. Later most of the children were disowned by the Quaker executive body for marrying outside the Society. But apparently he and his wife continued their beliefs because they are buried in the old Ridge Cemetery in Somerset Twp. Belmont Co, OH (source=Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy Vol VI, page 97)
