    3. William Astin, born approximately 1720 [sic, likely closer to 1732], died approximately 1787, married (1) Margaret (no first marriage was found in Botetourt or Chester County, Pa., but she was possibly a Phipps, and he appeared in Botetourt County along with the Phipps family in time and place). He married (2) Margaret Compton in Botetourt County on 7/16/1780. William had owned property in West Nantmill, Pa., and was taxed there from 1747-1764. From Letters of Administration he lived in West Nantmill in January of 1770. (We suspect that it was about this time that he list his first wife). He appeared in Botetourt County in 1772 and in 1773 he lived in the Tinker Creek area, near the Joseph Phipps family. William Austin was listed as draft age between 1781 and 1786, which indicated that he was under 50 years of age. William married Margaret Compton, daughter [sic, s/b "Mother"] of Joseph Compton, buying land from Joseph Dec. 4, 1780 - 281 acres on Long Run for 200 pounds. William and Margaret lived on the Compton homestead, which consisted of a home and two other buildings after their marriage. William Aston had no children by this second marriage, but two of his children of the first marriage lived in Botetourt Co., Isaac and Sarah Aston Jones. The other of William Aston's children remained in the Chester County, Pa. area.
