William Adamson was born February 17, 1780, at the family homestead. He remained, like his father, a life long resident of Pittenweem and succeeded to the weaving business which his father had established. The location was near the church. At his father's death in 1846, William was 66 years old. Hence, the two men must have been partners together for many years. It was known as a prosperous business under William Adamson's management and their grand daughter remembered them as a "well to do" family. In 1878, William's granddaughter wrote, "my grandfather Adamson lived to be 98 years old." This being so, he died in this year of grace 1878 at Pittenweem, Scotland. William was married to Anne Scott and had six children: Elizabeth, Thomas, David, Margaret, William, and James.
