Facts and Events
One of our Ice family members had a state building named after him in Springfield, Illinois. His story as told by his son is:
- "My Dad was blinded in an accident at the age of 4 and since his Dad couldn't properly care for him, he ended up in the Jacksonville (IL) School for the Blind and lived there through high school. He was a straight A student though, managed to get accepted to Illinois College in Jacksonville where he continued to be a straight A student, then he was accepted to the University of Illinois College of Law and graduated there in 1939 as their class valedictorian.
- "He lived in Danville, IL, after school and ran for a political judgeship literally right out of school and only lost by a few votes, so the political machine in Danville managed to get him a great job offer to move to Springfield and work as an attorney for the State of Illinois Dept of Revenue. He eventually even became the Director of Revenue, but he eventually went back to being their chief counsel because that was his first love.
- "He and my mother, Ina Rae Grimes Ice were tragically killed in an auto accident in June, 1980, and a couple of years after that, the Illinois State Legislature voted to name the new State Department of Revenue Building after him, quite an honor since it's the only government building in the State of Illinois named after an individual."
