He graduated from Story City High School in 1951 and Waldorf College in 1953. He attended DeForrest Technical Institute (1953-1954), and Radio Repair Training at Southeastern Signal School, Fort Gordon, Georgia. He served as a Corporal in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1957 with duty in Korea. He has served on the Story City County Central Committee and was Story City Precinct Committee Man. He has worked as a restaurant proprietor, a bookstore owner, in the design department o f the Iowa Highway Commission and as a grading foreman (Construction Engineer) on highway construction projects. He enjoyed playing piano and singing for his friends. He died of complications of a fall in his home in Wyoming, Iowa.
