Akron Beacon Journal (OH) - October 29, 1993 Deceased Name: Walter Martin Barton TENNESSEE -- Walter Martin Barton, 90, formerly of Akron, died Tuesday, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

He was a retired employee of B.F. Goodrich after 42 years. He was a 50-year member of Coventry Masonic Lodge and Windyke Country Club and played golf until about 18 months ago. Family members said he was known as 'The Little Giant' in golfing circles, and played with such professionals as Walter Hagen, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen. He was the All-Akron champion for two years in the mid 1930s. He also made the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Tournament three times and was known for shooting his age from 77 to 88.

He leaves a daughter, Barbara Marshall of Memphis; son, Richard Walter Barton of Los Gatos, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel is in charge.
