- 1830 - purchased a large tract of land containing mineral springs which he subdivided into lots for a summer resort, eventually becoming the town of Estill Springs

- 1861 - (age 72) enlisted in Confederate Army
- Civil war - CSA, Field and Staff, 1st Tennessee Infantry (Turney's Regiment)
