Vernon Waeldin was killed during a low-altitude bombing run over Kawasaki, Japan on April 16, 1945. Vernon Waeldin is noted in the report on the incident, filed by Colonel Carl R Storrie, Commanding Officer of the 29th Bomb Group (20th Air Force Division, 52nd Bomb Squadron, 29th Bomb Group), as a passenger on the plane (which had a crew of 11). Vernon Waeldin was a member of the 21st Bomber Command and was participating as an Aerial Observer. It was unclear at the time whether enemy aircraft or anti-aircraft weapons had brought the plane down. Missing Air Crew report at Footnote.com
