VERNON CHARLESWORTH FORMER OTTO SUPERVISOR DIES AT AGE OF 80.
Vernon H. Charlesworth, 80, former veteran supervisor of the town of Otto and a lifelong resident of Otto died April 26, 1957 in Tri-County Memorial Hospital at Gowanda.
Mr. Charlesworth, a retired dairy famer, had been in ill health following a stroke suffered last fall. He was in the hospital six days.
Supervisor for ten years, from 1938-1948, Mr. Charlesworth also was a longtime member of the Otto Town Board. He was a past master of the Cattaraugus County Pomona Grange and a member of North Otto Grange 990.
Born in Otto September 20, 1876, Mr. Charlesworth had lived in that community his entire life.
Surviving are a son, Clifford Charlesworth, Cattaraugus, and a daughter, Mrs. George Young, Otto; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Ballard, Mrs. E. Maude Foster, and Mrs. David Botsford, all of Gowanda; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His wife, Mrs. Cecelia Harberer Charlesworth, died sixteen years ago.
The body was taken to the Briggs Funeral Home, Cattaraugus, where services were held Monday at 3:30 p.m. with burial in East Hill Cemetery at Otto. The Rev. H. Stanley Dunn of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Cattaraugus officiated.
