Obituary

Vernon Lee Begor of Millbrook, formerly of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 88.

Son of the late Charles R. Begor, Sr. and Grace Broughton Begor, he was born on February 7, 1920 in Moriah, New York. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Orril Begor; Mrs. Begor survives at home in Millbrook.

Mr. Begor was a graduate of Mineville High School in Moriah and Bliss Electrical Institute. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. During his service, he was a Staff Sergeant in the Machines Record Unit. Following his service, he went on to work as a senior customer engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 42 years, until his retirement in 1982.

Known as "The Tinkerer", his specialized hobbies included restoration of antique wood furniture, carving ducks, making jewelry and fixing anything that needed it. He also had a love for deer hunting and fishing; his favorite fishing spot was in the Adirondacks. In upstate New York, he was a member of the Gouli Club. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife. Locally, Vernon was a member of the Masonic Lodge #671 of Wappingers Falls, an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls and formerly a Boy Scout leader for ten years.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, survivors include his children, Barbara Dubois, Bonnie Micus, Janice Kauffman, Jeffrey Begor, Leslie Madeoand, Susan Herman and Michael Wilser. He also enjoyed the gift of 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his first wife of 27 years, Judith John Begor, and his brothers, Charles Begor, Jr. and Dr. Fay Begor.
