  • Swearingen, Van - born 11/3/1754 abt. 10 miles from Hagerstown, Maryland; moved abt. 1770 to Monongalia country (area later Fayette County), Pennsylvania, where entered service 1777 in Maryland company to fight Tories in western Pennsylvania where his father lived; pensioned 1832 Shelby County, Kentucky, married (1) ? & had son Van Jr. & daughter mentioned but not named (died Bath County, Virginia before 1832) by her; married (2) 1829-1830 Sarah, Bath County, Virginia & had no children by her; son Van Jr. resided in 1834 Shelbyville, Kentucdky, soldier's widow died 5/1833 at residence of her son mentioned but not named.
