There is absolutely no information about this father of MICHAEL, which "White Creek" has discovered from any sources. We know that everyone must have parents, so therefore we know that Michael's father must have EXISTED at some time in history. His name must be recorded somewhere!

The History of Wabash County, Indiana (1914) states that MICHAEL migrated from "Bavaria", which we know to be not quite true. It was very common for the Rhine River PALATINE people to declare they were from Bavaria (or Prussia), when in fact they had migrated from a part of the Palatinate ruled by the King of Bavaria (1837+) or the King of Prussia (various dates), or even other monarchs. Apparently Michael was among the many immigrants who did not talk of their homeland.

The data posted by WeRelate Watcher "Carolgreene" gives a village name of BECHERBACH for some in the Schlemmer family. Becherbach is located in a cluster of tiny villages, between Rockenhausen and Meisenheim. It is about two to three miles southwest from WALDGREHWEILER, from where many of the Urbana pioneers had migrated. This area is about a dozen miles north of Kaiserslautern, where there is an emigration institute, which it is recalled that James Haupert of Urbana, had once visited.

About a mile north of Waldgrehweiler, is the combined village of Finkenbach-Gersweiler. This village (as many others in the area) had related pioneer migrants who settled in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and Wabash County, Indiana. Among surnames associated with the village who migrated were: Kieffaber, Wolf, Maurer, Mattern, Boerker (sometimes listed as Baker), Fetzer, and Schwarz. On a German website a Torsten SCHLEMMER presented a 5 page listing (in the German language - but it is easy to read) of these migrants from Finkenbach-Gersweiler. It is not known by "White Creek" who this Schlemmer is; nor if he is even from the village, nor if he is related to the Schlemmer family from Becherbach. His compilation is recent (at least as recent as 1963) and he has data that is from the St. Peter's Church in Urbana, Indiana. One can assume he is probably related to some of these people; who seem to be all related to each other. Torsten details the family of Philippina Fetzer, who married Jakob Eiler. Torsten gives the name of their son, also Jakob, who married Christina LAUER (Lower) in Urbana. Also many other recognizable Urbana surnames with whom these Finkenbach-Gersweiler migrants inter-married.

On the very detailed maps that the German Consulate sent "White Creek" in circa 1964, there is no "Calrlsburg" (she must mean: CARLSBURG?) shown in the vicinity. However, Gangloff does appear about half way between Becherbach and Waldgrehweiler. "Carolgreene" has a "Baherbaugh" listed, which doesn't appear on the maps. Perhaps the original meaning was Becherbach? Jim Geibel listed an "Obermuschel" which wasn't seen either.

Someone must have some "history" of the Schlemmer family, associated with Becherbach, and Gangloff?
