Name Timothy MAHONEY, Sr.

1. Assignment of the name, Timothy, is speculataive. The Tithe Applotments (1827) for the townland of Ballinveiltig, parish of Innishkenny, lists a Timothy Mahoney occupying 7 1/2 acres adjacent to Hichael Ahern. This person might be the father of Hanorah Drummey's future husband, also named Timothy Mahoney. This Timothy [Jr.?], Hanorah's future husband, would only have been about 12 years old at the time of the Tithe Applotments, so the Timothy listed therein must have been from an older generation. These close neighbors of the Aherns certainly knew the Drummeys - Timothy, Jr. married Hanorah, and his sister, Johanna Mahoney, married John Drummey. Two of Michael Ahern's daughters also married Drummeys.

It is only speculation that Timothy and Johanna were the children of the Timothy Mahoney shown on the Tithe Applotments in Ballinveiltig.

Mahoney is a common surname in County Cork and there are other Mahoney families in some of the parishes around Moviddy, the home parish of the Drummeys.
