The Bible record is as follows: Copy of record in old family Bible once owned by Benjamin Withers, and now in possession of one of his grandchilden. I, ***THOMAS WITHERS of F, appoint my friend, Joseph Lewis of Nelson County and District of Kentucky, my attorney, to superintend the whole of my land business in sd District. I want my attorney to have all the lands entered in my name or that I an[d] any in wise entitled to, surveyed and returned to the Registers Office. Also, I want my attorney to secure the land and then to divide it equally between my 4 children, [1] Hannah Winn, wife of James Winn, [2] Susanna Chinn, wife of Chischester Chinn, [3] Matthew K. Withers, and [4] Benjamin Withers. Further, I authorize my attorney to make a deed to my son, [5] John Withers, for 200 acres which he, my sd son John, has sold to Patrick Doran, and is the land which it is said that George Muter lives on. I want my children, to wit, afd Hanna, Susanna, Matthew K., and Benjamin, to be equal in every part of the expenses in securing sd land (except the 200 acres given to John Withers as afd). And if any of my children should refuse to contribute their equal part of the expense on the lands to be conveyed by my sd attorney to them, then I direct my attorney to convey that child's part to those who will comply with my request afd. As to the locater(s) of the land claimed by me within Kentucky, I want my attorney to make them special conveyances agreeable to whatever contract my son James Withers made with him or them. John Wright, Jr., against him and their mother-in-law, Honour Williams. In 1746 he inherited the part of his father's Licking Run land in Fauquier Co., VA, called "Green Meadows." By 1784 he had increased his holding in Fauquier Co., VA, to 728 acres in spite of selling some acreage in 1780. "On 15 May., 1780 he patented 804 acres on the Kentucky River in Jefferson and Lincoln Co., KY, and on 16 Mar., 1781, another 804 acres on the same River in Jefferson Co., KY. Towards the end of his life he gave most of his land to his children and in 1791 he went to live with his son Joseph Withers. " according to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, this Thomas Withers was a wagoneer (driver of an army supply wagon) during the Revolution. References
