Facts and Events
Thomas Whittemore came to America in 1642 with [third wife] Hannah and seven children, of whom John was the 5th and was born in Hitchin Parish, England. They settled in Charlestown, MA, which is now Malden. Thomas had five more children for a total of twelve. The name Whittemore at various times evolved from de Whytemere through Whytemere, Whitmore, and Whitemore, also spelled Whitamore.

Will date 8 Feb, 1660/61, proved June 1661, "of Charlestown", mentions "Hanna my wife", "my eldest son, Thomas, being now in England", "Daniel, my son", "my son Nathaniel", "my son John", "my daughter Elizabeth", "my five youngest, Benjamin, Thomas, Samuel, Pelatiah and Abraham ... when they are at the age of one and twenty years", "my sons Daniel and Nathaniel ... executors".

Thomas1 Whittemore of Hitchin, co. Herts, England, baptized there 6 Jan 1593 (The Register, vol 21, pp. 169-172), died in Malden, Mass., 26 May 1651. He married first ____; secondly, 14 April 1623, Sarah Deardes, who was buried in Hitchin 17 Nov 1628; and thirdly, 26 Oct. 1632, Hannah Chawley, maiden, of Hitchin (Herts Genealogist & Antiquarian, vol. 2, p. 143) died in Chelmsford, Mass., 19 May 1677, aged 65 (Chelmsford Vital Records), who married secondly, 3 Jun 1663, Benjamin Butterfield.
