He came to Wiltwyck after 1663 as he was not present during the Indian War of 1663 and was first recorded in 1667 at the "Mutiny of Esopus." He was a member of the Ulster County Militia in 1687, but refused to take the Oath of Allegiance in 1689. Baptismal records of his children refer to him as the "Papist."
