- Some sources, such as Source:Dwight, Benjamin Woodbridge. History of the Descendants of Elder John Strong of Northampton, Massachusetts, 1545-1894, Vol. 2, p. 1150, says that Sarah Strong m. 17 Dec 1701 as his 2nd wife [i.e., presumably after Elizabeth Wright?] Thomas Stebbins, b. 6 May 1662, d. 28 Dec 1712 [sic, 28 Apr 1712 in Northampton records]. The record of this marriage is found in Northampton, so undoubtedly the thinking was this must be Thomas Stebbins of Northampton, hence the son of John. The problem with this, is that the previous wife, Elizabeth (Wright) Stebbins, actually survived Thomas Stebbins and married (2) 1715 John Hannum, so it could not have been the husband of Elizabeth who married Sarah Strong. In the Source:Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records to 1850 is found a clue, namely the intention of Thomas Stebbins to marry Sarah Strong of Northampton. This tells us it was Thomas Stebbins of Springfield that married Sarah Strong, since with Sarah from Northampton, that is the only reason why they would need to publish intentions in Springfield. Comparing birth and deaths of Thomas Stebbins in Springfield, the following is noticed: Thomas, the son of Joseph and Sarah Stebbins was born 13 Jul 1679, died 29 Jun 1713. Compared with Sarah's birth on 29 Sep 1681, and her 2nd marriage to Joseph Williston on 6 Nov 1714, this must be the Thomas who married Sarah Strong.
