  3. Source:Coffin, Joshua. Sketch of the History of Newbury, Newburyport, and West Newbury, from 1635 to 1845, p. 318, lists the Thomas Silver who m. Mary Williams as born 1632, which would appear to be a typo. Source:Savage, James. Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, 4:98, on unknown authority, says Coffin says 1652. Based on Coffin not explicitly naming a father, Savage decides this Thomas was not born in Newbury, therefore not the son of Thomas Sen. This is making fact out of assumption.

More useful information comes from Source:Williams, Cornelia Bartow. Descendants of John Williams of Newbury and Haverhill, Mass., 1600-1674, which on p. 27 says two Thomas Silvers took the oath of allegiance in 1678, one age 26 and the other age 56 [presumably from NEHGR, p. 7:349-350]. This apparently is the origin of the 1652 date. But there are no signs that there were multiple Thomas Silvers, nor that the son whose birth was recorded died, so it seems very unlikely the Thomas Jr. was anything other than the son of Thomas Sen., and probably the age was 20 and misread as 26. There are several other ages of 20 and under on the list, and this would align perfectly with the recorded birth.
