    I The Reverend Thomas Powell of the Town of Montgomery in the County of Montgomery Clerk do make this my last will and Testament in manner following. It is my will and I will that my body be buried in a decent manner, that it be carried to the Grave by six poor Men of the parish in which I die to each of whom I give and [...] Two shillings and six pence and a pair of Gloves [...] that six Neighbouring Clergymen [...] as pallbearers. As touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to reward my [...] [...] I give and bequeath the same as followeth. I give and bequeath to the poor of the said parish of Montgomery the Sum of Five pounds (and to the poor of the parish of [...] in the said County I do [..] the sum of five pounds) to be distributed between them at the discretion of the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said Parishes respectively I give and bequeath to each Prisoner confined in he Goal for the said County at the time of my decease the sum of Five shillings. I give and bequeath to the Treasurer of the said County for the time being the Sum of Twenty pounds upon Trust that he lay out the same from time to time upon good Security and pay the Interest ariseing therefrom annually to the Chaplain of the said Goal for the time being to be laid out by him in the Purchase of Coals or other Fire Fuel to be distributed annually about Christmas amongst the said prisoners at the Discretion of the said Chaplain. I give and bequeath unto my Servant Mary Parry who has for many years served me faithfully and [...ly] if she be in my Service at the time of my Decease thirty pounds over and above her wages which may be then due together with a [...] Suit of Mourning not exceding in value the Sum of 1 [...] . I give and bequeath unto Matthew the Son and to Elizabeth Mary and Ann the three daughters of my Uncle James Powell of Newtown in the said County Maltster by Mary his wife ten pounds a piece and to Sarah daughter of my Uncle John Powell late of Newtown aforesaid deceased the like Sum of ten pounds I give and bequeath unto Jane and Mary the daughters of William Davies of the said Town of Montgomery Maltster Five Guineas each and to John Son of the said William Davies the like Sum of Five Guineas and the Gold Ring given to my be the said William Davies at the death of his beloved daughter Sarah. I give and bequeath unto my four Godsons William Son of Charles Thomas Jones of the said Town of Montgomery Gentleman Robert Son of Thomas Jones of Garthmill in the said County Gentleman David Son of William Wheatley Gentleman and Jane his wife late Jane Stephens and Joseph Son of Edward Davies of Rhydwymon in the said County Gentleman the sum of Two Guineas each. I give and bequeath unto the Reverend Cadwallader Williams now Curate of Forden aforesaid my Gown and Bands and to the Reverend Jones now of the Town of Montgomery aforesaid all my [...][...] And I desire that the Reverend Thomas Farmer now Curate of Churbury in the County of Salop will accept and make the use of either a Stacklowes History of the Bible in two volumes Folio or Chambers Dictionary in two volumes Folio as a small Testimony of my regard and Friendship for him. I give and bequeath unto my Brother Richard Powell of Newtown aforesaid my [...] and my wearing apparel and I do direct that the Legacies hereinbefore my me given and bequeathed be payable and paid within six Months after my decease. I give and bequeath to my Dear Mother Bridget Powell of Newtown aforesaid all my plate and my large Quarto Common Prayer Book. And as to all the rest and residue of my [...] Goods Chattles and personal Estate of what nature or kind and wheresoever subject to and charged and chargeable with my just debts Funeral Expences and Legacies and the Expences of proving and carrying the Trusts of this my Will into execution I give and bequeath the same unto my Friend the Reverend John Pryce of Gunley in the said County of Montgomery and the said William Davies upon Trust and to the Intent and purpose that they the said John Pryce and William Davies or the Survivor of them or the Executors Administrators or Assigns of such Survivor or and shall as soon as conveniently may be after my decease sell and dispose of all my Goods and such other Chattles and personal Estate as may not consist of Money and are not hereby given and bequeathed lay out at Interest the money arising therefrom together with all Sums of money due to me at the time of my decease after payment of my said debts Funeral Expences and Legacies upon such Security and Securities as to them shall seem good and sufficient with full power for the said Trustees or the Survivor his Executors Adminstrators or Assigns at any time to call up [...] or now place out the same and upon Trust to pay out the Interest arising therefrom unto my said Brother during the term of his natural life if my said Mother shall live so long an annuity of ten pounds by two half yearly payments upon the twenty fifth day of March and twenty fifth day of September in every year clear of all deductions the first payment thereof to be made on such of the said days as shall next happen after my decease and to pay the Residue of the Interest so to arise as aforesaid subject as aforesaid together with the said Annuity after the decease of my said Brother unto my said Mother for and during the term of her natural life by two half yearly payments on the twenty fifth day of March and twenty fifth day of September in every year the first payment thereof to be made on such of the said days as shall next happen after my decease And after such the decease of my said Mother if my said Brother be then living to pay to him my said Brother and his assigns for and during his natural life a [...] Annuity of thirty pounds instead of the said Annuity of Ten pounds such Annuity of thirty pounds to be payable at the times aforesaid by half yearly equal payments and the first payment to be made on [...] of the said days as shall next happen after the decease of my said Mother and upon further Trust to pay and lay out the said Residue of the said Interest during the life of my said Brother and the whole of the said Interest after his decease to and for the use and benefit of my any legitimate child or children of my said Brother in maintenance [...] or otherwise as they the said Trustees or the Survivor [...] Executors Adminstrators or Assigns in their or his [...] may think fit until they respectively attain the age of twenty one years and if by reason of the Trades or Professions [...] any or either of the said children or otherwise there shall [...] occasion for laying out any Sum of Sums of money for [...] their advantages over and above the said Interest I leave it to the discretion of the said Trustees of the Survivor his Executors Adminstrators or assigns to lay out the [...] of their respective share of the said principal money as to them or him the said Trustees or Trustee shall deem fit not prejudicing the said Annuity to my said Brother and to divide and pay the said principal money to and amongst such children if more than one or to pay the same to such child if one one at their his or her age of twenty one years deducting out of such share if more than one any part thereof that may be laid out for his or their use as aforesaid and so as to make the share of each of the said children if more than one equal And if my said Brother shall die leaving no such Issue as aforesaid I [...] unto my said Mother full power and authority to give bequeath and dispose of by her last will and Testament or otherwise Two hundred pounds part of my said personal Estate to such person or persons and in such manner as she shall think proper so as the same be made payable after her decease and in case of my said Brother dying without Issue as aforesaid I give and bequeath to such of the Children of the Right Honourable Lord Viscount Hewford as shall be living at the decease of my [...] Mother and Brother except an older child the Sum of [...] hundred pounds to be divided between them share and share alike and as to the Residue of my said Personal Estate after the decease of my said Mother and Brother be [...] said Brother leaving no legitimate Issue I direct the same be divided between the children of the said James Powell [...] the child of the said John Powell in equall shares and proportions and I will that my said Trustees and Each the Survivors his Executors Administrators or Assings shall be saved harmless and indemnified out of my said Estate of and from all damages and Expences which they of either of them shall or may sustain for or by reason of any [...] or reasonable out or Acts to be by them or either of them [...] with execution of the Trusts of this my Will and lastly I do nominate and appoint the said John Pryce and the said William Davies Executors of this my last Will and Testament     Whereas I the Reverend Thomas Powell of the Parish of Montgomery in the County of Montgomery Clerk have made and duly executed my last Will and Testament in writing bearing date the twenty sixth day of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety one and whereas since the making and executing my said will I have bought and purchased from Marvin? Powell Slater a certain Messuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell with a Stable and Garden thereunto belonging situtate in the Parish of Montgomery aforesaid I hereby give and devise the same with the appurtenances unto the Reverend John Pryce of Gunley Clerk and William Davies of Montgomery Gentleman Trustees and Executors named in my said Will or the survivor of them or the Executors administrators or assigns of such Survivor upon Trust that they or either of them do and shall as soon as conveniently may be after my decease sell and dispose of the said messuage and premises for the best price that can be reasonably got for the same and I hereby order and direct that the purchase money arising therefrom shall be considered [...] and accounted as part of my Personal Estate and be disposed of applied and appropriated by the said Trustees and Executors upon such Trusts and to and for such uses intents and purposes as my said Will hath already directed of my Personal Estate and whereas I am a Member of a Friendly(?) Society of Tradesmen and others in the Town of Montgomery from the Fund of which a certain Sum of Money will be owe to me at my decease I hereby direct my Executors to receive that Sum together with the money allowable towards the Funeral Expences of a Member which they will likewise be entitled to from the said Fund and distribute the same among such Members of the Society as they may think proper objects I give and bequeath [...] my Servant Mary Parry the Sum of twenty pounds in addition to the thirty Pounds already given her by my said Will I hereby revoke and make void the bequest of my Gown and Bands to the Reverend Cadwallader Williams and do give and bequeath to him all my [...] Manuscript Sermons I also revoke and make void the [..] bequest of my Manuscript Sermons to the Reverend John Jones Clerk and do give and bequeath unto him my Gown and Bands and I desire my said Executors to cloath my Servant Richard Corbett in such a decent Suit of coarse Mourning as they shall think proper Lastly I do hereby ratify and confirm all and every the Gifts and [...] Bequests in and by my said Will made and given and not hereby revoked or altered and declare this writing to be a codicil to my said will and to be accepted and taken as part thereof as fully and effectually as if the same had been actually inserted therein to In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the seventeenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety four -- T Powell [seal] Signed Sealed Published and declared by the above Testator as and for a Codicil to his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in the sight of each other have set our names as witnesses thereto -- James Harris William Anthony -- J Jones Jun’r
