NH Wills, Vol 2, pg297 shows Thomas Lyford will of 1726 giving `Twenty Shillings to Daughter Judith Foulshom.`

"Thomas Lyford was granted 30 acres of land, 3 Feb., 1698; 30 acres, 21 Feb., 1698; and was on list of distributees, 12 April, 1725, as having had 100 acres." S2

"In a deed acknowledged 9 July, 1672, is the following: 'To All People to whome this writing or Deede shall come wee Thomas Smith of Boston in New England Builder & Elisabeth his wife send Greeting. Know yee that for & in consideracon of the Love we the saide Thomas Smith & Elisabeth doe beare unto our Sone in Law ffrancis Lyford of the same place Marriner . . have granted . . unto the said ffrancis Lyford . . a piece or parcell of Land in length fourty foote or more or Less from the Seaward as far as the said Smith his Land reacheth being butted & bounded Easterly with the Salt Sea and fforthill & westerly partly with the dwelling house of him the saide Smith & partly with his Land &c.' (Suffolk Deeds, Liber VI, pages 320-321.)" History of Canterbury states that Francis sold this land after the death of his 1st wife. S3

In 1697, the selectmen of Boston were empowered to sell a small house and land in Boston to pay for the support of the widow of Thomas Smith and her son Thomas Smith, "who had been long sick."

On Nov. 16, 1714, "Thomas Lyford of Exeter within the Province of New Hampshire in New England Marriner * * * * for and in Consideration of the natural love and Affection that J have and bear towards my only Sister Elizabeth Lyford of Boston, Spinster, and for and in Consideration of the lameness and infirmity She now labours under * * * * Do remise, release & forever Quit claim unto the sd Elizabeth Lyford All the Estate right title * * * * in all the Lands and Tenements of my Grandfather Thomas Smith late of Boston, Shipwright, deced, lying Scituate and being at the South end of Boston aforesaid near Forthill comonly so called" S2

In 1715, the selectman reported that Elizabeth Lyford (granddaughter) has a right to the land and suggested that it be given to her. In 1716, Elizabeth, the granddaughter, quit claimed her rights to house and land which had been sold by the town on Oct. 26, 1697.

Will & Probate

"In the Name of God Amen the Twenty nineth day of December, 1726 I Thomas Lyford of Exeter in the province of New Hampshire in New England husbandman being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given untto God. therefore Calling unto mind the mortality of my body and Knowing that it is appointed for men once to dye : do make and ordain this my last will and Testament..."S2

Names in his will: "my well beloved wife" Judith, son Thomas Lyford, son David, son John Lyford, daughter Elizabeth Sinkler, daughter Mary Levitt, daughter Abigall Kimball, Daughter Rebacca, Daugther Susanna, Daughter Lidia Lyford, and daughter Hannah Lyford. son Thomas Lyford, executor, witnessed: Thomas Webster, Cornelius Corner, and Moses Connor.
