Facts and Events
TGCall thought died in Martinsville VA, Not Kentucky as he found no Martinsville in Kentucky. Ray Sommerville says born about 1757. Marc Becstrom says born 1757 in Charles County, Maryland, Death: Chrisbry's Family Tree at http://incolor.inebraska.com/chrisbry/fam00852.htm says born in North Carolina 369 LDS, Family Search Web Site, Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, Url: www.familysearch.com, familyid=7772443. says born in Maryland in 1757 Chris Bryant calls him Robert The first record found relating to Thomas Lomax is an entry for 10 acres of land in Montgomery Co., NC, dated 17 Dec. 1792. (Montgomery County Land Entries, LDS Microfilm 4832.) It is inferred that the first five of his children were born in NC, rather than near Danville, Kentucky as Joseph Lomax wrote. The 1796 Rowan Co. Tax List shows Thomas Lomacks, 50A, Bald Mountain area of Rowan [subsequently Davidson Co.]. (Benjamin is also shown with 150A.) The next record of Thomas is a deed dated 25 July 1806, Barren Co., KY. James and Easter Sanders sold Thomas Lomax 225 acres of land for $500. On 12 Sept. 1808, Thomas and Lucretia Lomax sold this land to Thomas Winn. (Barren County, Kentucky Deed Records, LDS microfilm 285l8, Pt. 10.) He is listed in the 1810 census of Barren County. No deed records in Warren Co. were found of Thomas either buying or selling land. However, Thomas is shown in the 1820 census of Warren Co. Some researchers have reported that Thomas died 1872/1875 in Danville, Boyle Co., KY, apparently well over the age of 110. The author believes that person is not Thomas, son of John and Maletta. The 1830 census in Montgomery Co., MO shows a Thomas Lomax, aged 80 to 90, and a second male, aged 20-30 (e.g. born 1800-1810). These ages do not match the person or family of this Thomas, but also do not match any other Thomas of whom the author is aware. There is also a Nancy Lomax Freeman who lived in Montgomery Co., MO; her age does not agree with the estimated birth of Thomas' daughter Nancy, but again, no other Nancy (Lomax) Freeman has been found. - John B.
