Green Mound Cemetery Cheney, Spokane County, Washington Contact: 217 Third St Cheney WA 99004 509- 235-4453 T23N R41E Sec 1 Lat: 47° 30' 56"N, Lon: 117° 34' 25"W Submitted by Vicki Morris, Jan 2, 2000 [[email protected]]. Total records = 149. Green Mound Cemetery, sometimes known as Odd Fellows Cemetery, was started in 1883 by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) of Cheney. The land was sold to the Order by homesteader, N.W. Garretson. In 1995 the lodge requested the Association take over care of the cemetery and turned over the books to the Historian. In May 1997 the deed was signed and The Cheney Cemetery Association became the official caretakers. The cemetery is located approximately one mile north of Cheney, in Sec 1, T23N, R41E. To reach the cemetery, go north (about 1/4 mile) on Murphy Road, from the intersection of Betz Road and N-6th Street. A small tree lined lane goes up to the cemetery from Murphy Road. The gate is usually locked, however, the key can be checked out from the Cheney Police Station at 611 Second Street. I walked this cemetery on Apr 14, 1999 and have combined my readings of the headstones with the current Sexton records. Transcribed and compiled by Vicki Morris © 1999. The earliest burial in this cemetery, as indicated by a date on a monument, was in 1888. However, there were probably earlier burials in graves without monuments.
