Second cousin of his wife Rosina.

Some of his brothers were inventors and manufacturers of farm machinery in the first three decades of the 20th century. They specialised in the winnower, stripper and the stump jump plough.

At some stage prior to 1924, they merged with the Adelaide firm Horwood Bagshaw, which continued to produce their patented machinery.
