    In the name of God amen I Thomas Hyll of the parryshe of Paules Walden als Abbotts Walden in the County of Hertford yeoma[n] being sick in bodie but yet of good and perfect memorie thanks be given to Allmightie God do ordaine and make this my testament concerning herein my last will this seavententh daie of November Anno Domini one thousand Six hundred and two And in the five and fortieth year of the Raigne of our most gratious Soveraigne Ladie Elizabeth by the grace of God of England France and Ireland Queene defender of the faith &c. in manner and forme following that ys to saie First I bequeath my Soule into the handes of Allmighte God my heavenlie father beseeching for Christe his sonnes sake in mercie to receave the same And as for my bodie that I bequeath unto the eathe from whence yt came and to be buried in the Churche yarde of Walden aforesaid betwene the places where my two wives were buried as nere to them both as convenientlie yt maie be. And as touchinge the disposition of all and singular my landes Ten[emen]ts goodes Chattells and all other my worldlie possessions wherewith the lorde hath blessed me here in this lyfe I do give devise dispose and bestowe them in manner and fourme followinge that ys to saie First I give to the poore of the parrish of Paules Waldenne aforesaide twentie shillinges of lawfull English monie to be distributed amongst them at or shortlie after my buriall at the discreation of my Executor and Overseers hereunder named Item I give to the poore of the parrysh of Kimpton other Twentie shillinges to be likewise distributed amongst them at or shortlie after my said buriall in the discretion of my Executor and Overseers Item I give unto Mr Halsteade Vicar of Paules Walden aforesaide Twentie shillings desiring him therefore to make and preach two sermondes one of them at my buriall and the other within one moneth then next followinge Item I give unto Mr Fall of Kimptonne twentie shillings desiringe him therefore to make and preach two sermons yf he shalle then continewinge in Kimpton else to Some other good devine in his absence to be chosen and appointed by my Executor the one Sermon I will to be made in the forenoone uppon the Sundaie next after my buriall And the other within one monethe then next following Item I give and devise unto Robert Hill my sonne and to his heires and Assignes for ever all that my Messuage or Tenement w[i]th the appurtenances in Kimpton aforesaid in the said Countie of Hertford with all and singuler my landes Tenements and hereditaments there to belonginge And all the deedes evidences Charters writinges and munimentes touchinge and concerninge the same Item I give and devise unto Richard Hill my sonne All that my lease of a messuage or Tenement and a tilehouse with all houses buildings yardes Tile killes Tiles Ostes? gardaines voide groundes and appurtenannces thereto belonginge And three Closes of pasture grounde to the said Tennament belonginge in the parrishe of Hadley in the Countie of Mydl[esex] sometimes Thomas Lees and Sibill his wyfe and all my right title estate interest and tearme of yeares yet to come and unexpired of and in the same To have and to hould the same lease and all other the meane conveyaunces concerninge the land unto my saide sonne Richard his Executors and Assignes from the daie of the death or naturall decease of me the said Thomas Hill for and during all the tearme of yeares then to come and unexpired of and in the said landes and groundes Item I give and bequeath unto John Hill my sonne Fortie pounds of lawfull Englishe monie to be paid unto him w[i]thin halfe a year next after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto the four Children of my daughter Walbie vizt George Thomas Elizabeth and Nicholas to everie of them Fortie shillings the peece of lawfull Englishe monie to be paide unto George Walbie theire Father to theire use and behoofe within two yeares next after my decease by him to be imployed to their beste benefitt and advauntage Item I give and bequeath to all the Children now lyvinge of Edward Howes my sonne in lawe forty shillinges the peece to be paide unto theire Father to theire use and behoofe within two yeres next after my decease by him to be imployed to theire best benefitt and advauntage or else to be aide unto them as they shall accomplishe their severall ages of sixteen yeares at the discreation of my Exeuctor. Item I give unto everie of the Childrene of Humfrey Marshall my sonne in lawe which he had by me daughter Grisell and which are nowe livinge Fortie shillinges the peece to be paide unto them as they shall accomplishe their severall ages of syxteen yeares Item I give and bequeathe unto the two children of my sonne Richard now living to either of them Fortie shillinges to be paide to them as they shall accomplish theire severall ages of sixteen years Item I give and bequeath unto the foure children of my daughter Walbie before named three poundes the peece over and above the other forty shillings apeece given and bequeathed unto them before to be likewise paide unto Georg Walbie their Father to their use and behoofe within two yeares next after my decease by him to be imployed to their best benefitt and advauntage Item I give and bequeath unto everie one of my godchildren twelve pense the peece Item I give and bequeathe unto everie one of my servauntes which shall dwellinge with me at the time of my decease three shillinge and fower pence the peece Item I give unto Joane my Welbeloved wyfe all the good and household stuff which she brought with her in marriage And also I will that she shall have the Chamber over the kitchen and meate and drinke provided for by my sonne Robert during her widowhood and sufficient firewood for her to spende in her said Chamber Item I give and bequeath unto my said wyfe yearlie duringe her naturall Lyfe in lieu and consideration of her right title and interest of Dower of and in all and singular my lanes tennementes and hereditaments whatsoever the some of fifty three shillinges and fower pence of lawfull Englishe monie to be paide unto her by my executor at Fower tearmes or Feasts in the year usuall that is to saie the Feasts of the birthe of our Saviour Christe of the Annuntiation of the blessed Marie the Virgin of the birth of Saint John the Baptisete and of sainte Michaell the Archeaungell by even portions and the first paiment thereof to beginne at that Feast of the aforesaide Feasts which shall first happen after my deceased Provided allwaies and my will and minde is that yf my saide wyfe shall claime or challenge anie thirdes or dower of andon anie my saide landes Tenementes and hereditaments That then the said gift of fyftie three shillinges and fower pence by the yeare to her herein given and bequeathed shall utterly ende and cease as yf the same had never been given and bequeathed And further I will and my minde is that yf my saide wyfe shall dislike to continuewe with my sonne Robert and shall live elsewhere Then my minde and will is that my saide sonne Robert shall content and paie unto her yearlie during her natural lyfe the some of Fower poundes of lawfyll Englishe monie in lieue of her thirdes and Dower which I will shall quarterlie paide in fourme aforesaide. The residue of all and singular my goodes Chattels moveable and immoveable debtes rightes and Credyttes whatsoever my debtes being paide my Funerall expences dischardged and my leagacies being performed I give unto Robert Hill my sonne aforesaide whome I do ordaine and make my full and whole executor of this my laste will and testament And I hope of the good directing and advising of my saide sonne in the true execution thereof accordinge to my true intente and meaning with theire good advise and Counsell I do nominate and make Mr Thomas Hoo esquire my verie especiall and loveinge frende and my loveing and good brother in law Richard Bigge my faithfull Supervisors and overseers of the same my laste will and Testament To whome I give for theire paines theire chardges being borne Tenn shillings the peece in goulde In witness whereof I have caused this my presente last will and Testament to be written and thereon to have putt my hand and Seale the Daie and yeare above written in the presence of Thomas Hoo Thomas Younge Richard Bigg and of Henrie Halsteede Script Signum dicti Testaoris
