The other Hewitts listed alongside Thomas would appear to be his daughter Mary Ann, his son William from his second marriage, and Mary Ann's children George and Mary Ann. Thomas's granddaughter Mary Ann died just a few weeks after this census, being buried on 29th April 1861 at Redhill, whilst Thomas's son William died a few weeks after that, being buried on 8th June 1861 at Redhill. Both the children's burial records give their last abode as the Union Workhouse.

BURIALS in the Parish of Reigate in the County of Surrey in the year One thousand eight hundred and Seventy Seven | No | Name | Abode | When buried | Age | By whom the Ceremony was performed | 1063 | George Hewett | Reigate Union House | July 7th | 86 Y[ea]rs [1790/1] | John N. Harrison, Vicar |
Although the name given on the death and burial record is George, this is considered to be an error. No later sightings of Thomas have been found after the 1871 census, when he was in the Union Workhouse at Reigate. Both his surviving children, Edward and Mary Ann, stayed in the Reigate area, making it unlikely he would have moved to another part of the country. Conversely, no earlier sightings in the censuses of a George Hewett of this age in the Reigate area have been found. Therefore we conclude that this similarly aged George Hewett whose last abode was the Union Workhouse at Reigate is actually this Thomas.
