↑ In the name of God Amen: The nyne and Twentieth day of October Anno Dni one Thousand Six hundred thirtie foure and in the tenth yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of god of England Scotland France and Ireland king Defender of the faith &c I Thomas Henman of Sindane in the parrish of Leneham in the County of Kent gentleman being in reasonable good health of body and of good sound and perfect minde and memorie I praise my god therefore and calling to minde the inconstanty and mutabilitie of this fraile and transitory life doe for the better settling ordering and disposing of that worldly estate wch god of his great mercie hath lent me here in the miserable world make publish and declare this my testament and last will in manner and forme followeing First I bequeath my Soule to my lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through whose birth passion resurrection and assention I doe assuredly hope to have pardones(?) of all my sinnes and after this life ended to enioy eternall blisse with him in his heavenly kingdome And by body I doe leave to the earth from whence it came to be buried at the discrecon of my executor hereafter named Item I give to the poore people of the parish of Leneham aforesaid five pounds of good money And to the poore people of Withling in the foresaid County of Kent tenn shillings of like money The said Severall Sumes to be distributed amongst them att the discrecon of my said executor within one moneth next after my decease; Item I doe give and bequeath unto my godsonne Thomas Allen of Torrie(?) Hill John Hulkes Thomas Barling sonne of Christopher Barling Richard Chalcrofte sonne of William Chalcrofte and to Richard Barling sonne of Stephen Barling tenn shillings a peece of good money Item I doe give and bequeath unto all my servants men and maides that shall dwell with me at the tyme of my death tenn shillings a peece of good money over and above their serverall wages then to be due To be payed unto them within one moneth next after my decease; Item I doe give and bequeath unto my sonne William Henman twenty pounds of good money of England to be paied unto him by my said executor at this age of one and twenty yeares. Item I doe will and appoint that there shalbe a sermon at my funerall for the better instruccon and comfort of the auditorie that wilbe there present And I doe give unto him that shall [] the same sermon Twenty Shillings in [] And lastly I doe nominate ordaine constitute and appoint Thomas Henman my eldest Sonne my Sole executor of this my testament and last will hereby chargeing him well and truly to performe the same according to my true intent and meaneing.
This is the last will and Testament of me the sayd Thomas Henman made and declared the day and yeare first above written for touching and concerning all and singular my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever scituate lyeing and being in the foresaid County of Kent or elswhere within the Realme of England in manner and forme followeing (that is to saye.) First I doe will give and bequeath unto my foresaid sonne William Henman his heires and assignes forever one annuity or yearly rent of eight pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be yssueing and taken out of all my messuages lands Tenements and hereditaments hereafter in and by this my will bequeathed to my sonne Allen Henman payable at the feasts of theannunciacon of our blessed Virgin Mary and St Michaell tharchangell by even and equall porcons The first payment thereof to beginn at such of the said feasts as shall first happen next after my decease with free libertie power and authoritie to distreyne for the same in and uppon the foresaid premisses subiect to the said Rent yf it shalbe by mee and unpayed in part or in full att my tyme by the space of one and twenty dayes next after any of the foresaid feasts yet nevertheles my will and minde is that yf the sayd Allen Henman my sonne his heires or assignes at any tyme when the space of seaven yeares next after my decease shall pay or cause to be payde unto the sayd William Henman my sonne his heires or assignes the some of one hundred and fortie pounds of good and lawfull money of England for the purchase and in lieue of the said annuitie or yearly rent of eight pounds Then the said annuity or yearly rent shalbe determined and cease; or otherwise be conveyed and assigned unto the said Allen Henman his heires or assignes as shalbe lawfuly and reasonably devised and required Item I doe will give and bequeath unto my said sonne Allen Henman his heires and assignes forever all that my messuage or tenement standing at the Ferry wall and in the parrish of Mynster in the Isle of Sheppey in the foresaid County of Kent together with all barnes and buildings thereunto belonging And all these lands meadows pasturs and marsh grounds to the said messuage also appertayning and therewith used occupied or enioyed conteyning by estimate, one hundred and five acres with all wayes passags walles sewers and appurtenances thereunto belonging lyeing and being in Mynster aforesaid, all which nowe are in the tenure or occupacon of Adam Atkens his assignes or undertennants Item I doe will give and bequeath unto my sonne John Henman his heires and assignes forever all those my lands grounds and marshes called Ragfeilds and the nyne acres with their wayes and appurtenances conteyning together by estimacon threescore and tenn acres lying and being in Mynster aforesaid; And all that my upper part of my lands grounds and marsh called Ferrie Marsh with the wayes and appurtenances thereunto belonging conteyning by estimacon fyftie and six acres lying and being in Mynster aforesaid Item I doe will give and bequeath unto my said sonne William Henman his heires and assignes forever all that my messuage or tenement called Tenfould with all barnes buildings Closes gardens orchards lands meadowes pastures feedings woods and woodgrounds thereunto belonging or appurtayning scituate lyeing and being in Leneham and Whithling aforesaid And all those my woodgrounds with thappurtenances lyeing and being in Leneham aforesaid which I late purchased of John Halser gent and was sometymes parcell of Yokes Court of therewith used And one acre of land by estimacon lyeing in Leneham aforesaid which I late purchased of the foresaid John Halsey lyeing between a wood called yokes hill wood on the one side and a certaine land Called Colepit lane on the other side And alsoe one peece or parcell of woodground called Colepit wood conteyning by estimacon five acres with the appurtenances lyeing and being in Leneham aforesaid. And one acre of land by estimacon which I purchased amongst other lands of George Allen and John Allen next adioyning to the foresaid woodground called Colepitt wood And alsoe all that my peece or parcell of lande called Colepit croft conteyning by estimacon foure acres lyeing and being in Leneham aforesaid And my will and minde [] is that all the fences of what sort or qualitie soever the same be now tendeing the woodgrounds belonging to my foresaid messuage called Tenfoulds above bequeathed to my said sonne William Henman and my lands called Yokes Hilles formerly by me graunted and assured to my eldest sonne Thomas Henman extending from Yokes Hills barres adioyning to Tenfold Hill unto the Corner where Tenfold and Yokes Hill woods are conioyned shall from tyme to tyme forever hereafter be kept and maintayned by my said sonne Thomas Henman his heires and assignes And that all the fences and inclosures(?) of what sort or qualitie soever the same be now devideing any of the lands above bequeathed to my said sonne William Henman and my other lands formerly graunted and assured to my said eldest sonne Thomas Henman shall from tyme to tyme forever hereafter be kept and maintayned by me said sonne William Henman his heires and assignes Item I doe will give and bequeath unto my sonne James Henman his heires and assignes forever all that my lower part of my lands grounds and marsh called Ferrie Marsh (nowe lyeing in two parts and parcels) with all wayes and appurtenances thereunto belonging lyeing and being in Mynster aforesaid Item I doe will give and bequeath unto my sonne Richard Henman his heires and assignes forever all those my lands grounds and Marshes called Westheys conteyning by estimacon thirtie and five acres with the wayes and appurtenances thereunto belonging lyeing and being in my [after?] aforesaid. And all that my messuage or tenement with the barnes and buildings thereunto belonging called Crette together with the Closes gardens orchards and lands arrable meadows pasture wood grounds with theappurtenances scituate lyeing and being att or neere unto a certaine place called Woodscade in Lenehum aforesaid And also all that my orchard lands meadows and pasture with th’appurtenances called Clayfores lyeing and being att or neere unto West Streete in Leneham aforesaid; And all that my annuity or yearly rent of fyve pounds yssuring out of certaine lands called Waton mill feilds lyeng and being in Minster aforesaid sometymes Robert Allens And concerning my principall messuage and Mansion house called Syndane and divers other my land Tenements and hereditaments not herein or hereby formerly devised, scituate lyeing and being in Leneham and Withting aforesaid and in Mylsted in the foresaid County of Kent I have formerly by my deed graunted and conveyed them unto my said eldest sonne Thomas Henman his heires and assignes forever And whereas I now stand seized in fee simple of and in other lands and marsh grounds called Cheney Marsh Horsehope furth marsh Tukhcokes and ferrie hookes lyeing and being in Mynster aforesaid with the wayes sewers walles and appurtenances thereunto belonging and severally appertayning (not hereby in this my will formerly given or bequeathed) All which said lands and marshgrounds are a full thirde part and more of all the messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whereof I doe stand seized of my inheritance over and above all charges and repaires And therefore I doe will leave and appoint the said lands and marshe grounds to descend and come unto the said Thomas Henman my eldest sonne his heires and assignes forever To the end and intent that the Kings Ma’tie his heirs and successors shall have that which shalbe due unto him or them for wardshipp liverie primer seizin or otherwise as the case shall fall out. Item I doe hereby will and appoint and my meaneing is that the executor of this my will and Testament shall receave and take all the yearly rents yssues and proffits of all and singular the messuages lands tenements annuities and hereditaments of myne whatsoever before willed and bequeathed to any of my said sonnes which shalbe under the age of one and Twenty yeares at the tyme of my decease except of the Tymber tymber trees woods and underwoods thereon severally groweing or to be groweing for and towards their educacon maintenance and bringing up and for and towards the payment of all my debts whatsoever And all my legacies herein devised yf my moveable goods will not suffice to performe and pay the same Untill their severall and respective ages of one and Twenty yeares And as every of them shall accomplish his said age of one and twenty yeares he to have the remayning part of the yssues rents and proffits of his lands and Tenements above devised and bequeathed unto him deducting as aforesaid in proporconable manner respectively and my will and minde further is and I doe hereby appoint tht my said executor shall make a iust and true account unto my said severall sonnes (being under the age of one and twenty yeares att the tyme of my death at their severall and respective ages of one and twenty yeares and then shall pay them severally the overplus of the proffits of their severall lands and premisses for them by him receaved (yf any happen to be) my said executor defalkeing(?) and being alowed all such somes of money as he shall have disburse for and towards the payment of my said debts and legacies and the severall educacons of my said severall sonnes and for and towards all such charges and expences as he shall iustly be at any manner of wayes in regard of any suite; or suites or other troubles touching or concerning the preservacon of their or any of their estate or estates hereby devised or otherwise for the performance of this my last will and Testament for their or any of their advantages and benefits. And my will and minde further is that my said executor shall have the educacon and bringing upp of such of my said sonnes as shalbe under the age of one and twenty yeares at the tyme of my death untill they shall severally and respectively attaine to their severall and respective ages of one and twenty yeares in good literature or otherwise he shall thinke fitt; And I doe hereby renounce and revoke all former wills that I have att any tyme heretofore made meaneing and intending that this shall stand be and remayne my only testament and last will In wittnes whereof I the sayd Thomas Henman have to the topp hereof set my seale and to every sheete hereof being nyne sheetes of paper have subscribed my name; and published the same to be my last will and Testament the first day of November Anno dni one thousand sixe hundred thirtie foure Thomas Henman In the presence of James Tonge John Allen and W Codd
A Codicill made and added to the will aforesaid by me the foresaid Thomas Henman the Testator the seaventh day of December Anno Dni one Thousand six hundred thirtie six whereby I doe will and appoint that the foresaid Thomas Henman my sonne and executor in this my foresaid will named shall pay unto my foresaid sonne Richard Henman when he shll have attayned his age of one and twenty yeares the some of twelve pounds of good English money out of and with such personall estate of myne as he shall possess and [] as my executor and with the yssues and rents of such lands as I have by my said will appointed him to receave dureing the minoritie of my younger sonnes And I give and bequeath unto my foresaid sonne John Henman in this my will named all such horsebeasts geldings mares Colts oxen kyne sheepe and all other Cattle of myne of what kinde or nature soever they be as he the said John shall have in his possession at the tyme of my decease and in respect thereof and of the lands and premisses which I have formerly by this my will devised unto him I doe will and appoint that the said John my sonne his heires or assignes shall paye unto the foresaid Richard Henman my sonne when he shall have attayned to his said age of one and twenty yeares the some of eight pounds of like money And for non payment thereof accordingly the said Richard shall enter into the foresaid lands of the said John and receave the rents and proffits thereof untill he be satisfied the said eight pounds In wittnes whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name the foresaid seaventh day of December one thousand six hundred thirtie six Thomas Henman James Tonge John Allen
An other Codicill made and added to the will aforesaid, by me Thomas Henman the testator the fourteenth day of August, one thousand six hundred thirtie eight; Whereas in and by this my will I have given and bequeathed unto Richard Henman my sonne his heires and assignes forever (amongst other things) my messuage called Evetts and the buildings and lands thereunto belonging being at Woodscad in Leneham (as by the will appeareth) forasmuch as part of the lands belonging to the said messuage (and intended therewith to be devised) doe lye in Withling aforesaid which parrish is omitted in that my guist I doe therefore hereby ratifie and confirme unto my said sonne Richard his heires and assignes forever my foresaid guist and bequeath of the foresaid messuage called \evetts with all the buildings and lands thereto belonging lyeing in Leneham aforesaid And doe alsoe give and bequeath unto him the said Richard my sonne his heires and assignes forever all other my lands and hereditaments to the said messuage called Evetts belonging lyeing and being in the foresaid parrish of Withling And I doe hereby further declare my will and minde to be and soe doe provide that yf any of my sayd sonnes Allen Henman John Henman William Henman James Henman and Richard Henman shall happen to dye without yssue of his body lawfully begotten That then all the lands and premisses as by this my will I have given devised or otherwise bequeathed to such sonne and his heires in fee simple shall remaine and come to the survivors of them the said Allen John William James and Richard in severaltie and to their severall heires forever in equall parts and porcons (any devise provision or thing whatsoever before in my said will conteyned to the contrary notwithstanding) In wittnes whereof I the said Thomas Henman have hereunto subscribed my name the foresaid fourteenth day of August one thousand six hundred thirtie eight Thomas Henmanf In the presence of James Tonge John Allen and Wm Dodd
