  3.   Northampton Mercury, Saturday 22nd October 1842
    THOMAS GOBBY, of Toddington, charged with having stolen a scythe, the property of Joseph Medcroft of Toddington.
    The prosecutor missed a scythe whuch he hung up in a hovel on the 1st of July. He told several people of it so as to guard them against buying it. On the last day of the month he found that a man named Scrivener had got it. He knew the scythe by
    a private mark he had filed on the back.
    James Scrivener.-On the 30th of July bought a scythe of prisoner for 2s. and a half pint of beer. The next morning Medcroft owned it. Prisoner said he bought the scythe at Colney for half-a-crown.
    Guilty - Six Weeks' Hard Labour.
