"2. Thomas2 Edwards (John1) was born in England about 1623 and died at Wethersfield 27 July 1683 at 'about 62 years' (Barbour, Wethersfield VRs, 102). The estimate of his age at death appears to be high. On 27 August 1667, stating his age as '43 years or thereabouts,' he gave a deposition about land prices and rents at Hockanum in a lawsuit between Samuel Wyllys and Mrs. Ursula Gibbons (Wyllys Papers, 164), and he was 'about 47' on 10 November 1670 when he testified to Samuel Benjamin's oral will at Hockanum (Manwaring, 1:182). …
Thomas Edwards died intestate (Hartford District Probate Records, 4:78,157). His estate was insolvent: the inventory, presented by Samuel Talcott and James Steele on 18 December 1683, valued at £61:12s, consisted only of a barn and 1½ acres of land, a few items of old furniture and other domestic items, 130 bushels of Indian corn, and 'Latin books and English books.' Against that, 38 items of debt and charges totaling about £96 were listed and the administrator, Samuel Hale, was ordered to appoint a time before next March for all of the creditors to meet and receive their debts 'so far as the estate will pay them.'"
