"He was a Rev. Soldier and witnessed the execution of Major Andre. He came to Otisfield before 1790 and settled on lot 15 range 4, Phillips Gore, and built a log house on the east end of the lot about opposite from the Samuel Wardwell house....Mr. Edes was a chairmaker by trade and after his settlement on the Gore made chairs for the inhabitants of the town, mostly straight backed kitchen chairs, bottomed with elm bark twisted into a rope, which for durability comfort and economy, have never been excelled since his time.
