... Three sons survived the sudden death of the parents in Kentucky. These were: Thomas, born in Virginia in 1765; married to Nancy Barr, of Pennsylvania, June 16, 1789; removed to Kentucky, and from there to Fugit Township, where he settled in 1823. His wife, Nancy, died in April, 1833, and he died the following December. Thomas Donnell was a man of iron nerve, who loved the woods and the exciting scenes of the frontier. He is known to have served in some of the historic expeditions against the Indians during the latter part of the last century. He possessed a firm belief in the plain creed of his ancestors, and was a communicant of the same church. His children were among the sturdy workers who felled the forest to make way for the plow here in Decatur County.
