Thomas Castle's origins are unknown. In 1841, aged about 20, he married Mary Lies, a boot binder from Evesham in Worcestershire. They appear to have married in the Ledbury area of Herefordshire, but then moved back to Mary's native Evesham, where they had a daughter, Emma, born later in 1841.

Thomas died in 1845, aged 25, and was buried at St Lawrence's Church in Evesham.
