Thomas Buford whent to Kentucky with his father about 1796, and settled in Lincoln County. near the present town of Lancaster. He was sheriff of Garrard County for several years, and held other local trusts. He was a member of the Kentucky Legislature 1806-1809, State Senale, 1809. He was postmaster in 1850. During the War of 1812 was a deputy quartermaster of the Northern Army. He died in 1863. (His monument in Lancaster cemetery says he died in 1861).
