    Funeral services were held at the residence Monday afternoon for Thomas William Buchanan, 82 years old, who died at his home here Sunday morning at 5 o'clock after an illness of several months. Rev. Alfred Erickson, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. J. L. Robinson and Rev. T. S. Curry. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. Mr. Buchanan was one of the pioneer business men of this city, coming here in January, 1881 when he began clerking in the store of the late J. N. Turner, Sr. In 1883 he formed a partnership with C. R. Fleece in the grocery business and later purchased the entire business himself. He was one of the founders of the Buchanan-Lyon Wholesale house, combining with W. R. and R. J. Lyon to form this partnership in 1909. He was also connected with the hardware business and in automobile distribution for several years. He was a member of the Blue Lodge of the Masons and of the Eastern Star. He united with the Presbyterian church early in life and for the past three decades or more, has been an Elder in the Campbellsville Presbyterian Church. He has been identified with the many civic enterprises and was one of the best known and respected of our citizens. He was born on March 1, 1858 at Roachville, Ky., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Scott Buchanan. Mr. Buchanan was married to Miss Bettie Cowherd, of Shelby County, Ky., in May 1886 and four children were born to this union. She preceded him in death on January 31, 1923. He was married for the second time to Elizabeth Lisle Jett, of Lebanon on May 14, 1924, who survives. Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons: Fred and James Buchanan, Campbellsville; one daughter: Mrs. Elvira Caskey, Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren; two brothers: Scott and Charles R. Buchanan, both of Taylor County. Active pallbearers were Elders of the Campbellsville Presbyterian Church and included: J. H. Chandler, J. N. Turner, J. W. Ramsey, W. C. Cloyd, H. T. Edwards, E. C. Coppock. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the Campbellsville and Bethel Presbyterian churches and included: J. R. Smith, R. A. Burress, Paul Johnson, George Turner, Dr. M. M. Hall, W. T. Coppock, Wood Mitchell, Linney Coppock, Charles Patterson, T. G. Layton, Robert Turner, Twyman Campbell, W. T. Mardis, Albert Miller, S. B. Coppock, C. B. Turner, Mac Rogers, Redman Turner and Richard Salmon.
