"Thomas1 Brooks comes first to our notice in records of New London, Conn., where he was a blacksmith and sold land in March, May and Oct. 1660. He bought an old vessel, 4 May 166l. He was of Haddam, Conn., shortly after, and married Marah2 Spencer, born about 1642, daughter of Ensign Gerard1 Spencer. He died at Haddam, 18 Oct. 1668, and by Apr. 1670 his widow married second, Thomas Shaylor. The death of Thomas Brooks and the births of his children are entered in the probate records. The inventory amounted to £109.9-0. On 11 Apr. 1670, administration was granted to the 'present husband' of the widow."

"Savage suggested that this passenger may have been the man of that name who appeared in New London in 1659 and then moved on to Haddam [Savage 1:262], but the twenty-five year gap is unexplained and this suggestion seems very unlikely."
